TOKUNBO is the darling of the Folk Noir scene, with four solo albums and a musiography spanning five German Jazz Awards, multiple radio and TV interviews and a host of international tours.
TOKUNBO returns with her fourth solo album, Lost & Found, a collection of acoustic songs exploring identity, heritage and the experiences that shape a life. Blending folk, jazz and cinematic pop, the album continues the distinctive songwriting that has earned the German-Nigerian artist international acclaim, including the International Acoustic Music Award for Best Female Artist and performances with the NDR Radiophilharmonie.
TOKUNBO released her much-acclaimed, solo-debut album Queendom Come in 2014. Queendom Come was described by Jazzthetik Magazine as ‘a wonderful album brim-full with catchy songs, sung by a stunningly beautiful voice’.
Her sophomore album The Swan gained a grant from German government’s Initiative Musik Foundation and
received significant media and critical attention, particularly from the quality music press. ‚…one of the most masterfully produced albums from Germany. Wonderfully sung and played.‘ (Focus Online). Her third solo album Golden Days, blending folk jazz songwriting with country elements, was hailed as instant classic by the press.
Her latest album ‘Lost & Found’ draws on memories spanning three generations, from TOKUNBO’s childhood in Nigeria and adolescence in Germany to motherhood and her life as an artist. Written during retreats in a treehouse and by the North Sea, the songs explore family, cultural identity, female empowerment and reconciling past and present.
TOKUNBO’s work has been particularly well received by the high-fidelity community, her albums The Swan and later Golden Days becoming a demo albums of choice within the HiFi industry. The vinyl edition of The Swan sold out several times within a few months. Her third solo album Golden Days, was hailed as instant classic by the press.
With Lost & Found, TOKUNBO continues to refine the ‘Folk Noir’ sound that has become her hallmark—intimate acoustic songwriting shaped by jazz, folk and pop influences, united by a thoughtful approach to storytelling. The result is her most complete exploration yet of identity, family and the places we return to while finding our way forward.
Musically, Lost & Found blends fingerpicked acoustic guitars, subtle jazz influences and understated orchestration with TOKUNBO’s expressive vocals. Her four solo albums naturally align with the classical elements. As Queendom Come represents fire, The Swan air and Golden Days earth, Lost & Found became the water album, shaped by movement, memory and constant change.
TOKUNBO’s career has been recognized with several awards, including the Grand Prize at the 2023 John Lennon Songwriting Contest and a silver medal at the 2021 Global Music Awards. Building on this recognition, she has also served as a jury member for the German Jazz Prize in 2022 and for the Eurovision Song Contest.
TOKUNBO has also performed alongside and supported an array of industry stars, from Gregory Porter to Dee Dee Bridgewater. In 2020, the year of the pandemic, TOKUNBO co-founded #AirplayForArtists, an initiative paving the way for independent musicians onto National Radio.
Previously, TOKUNBO was the voice of Tok Tok Tok, with global tours and high-profile concerts with the NDR Pops Orchestra and the Babelsberg Filmorchestra as credits. Thanks to several TV guest appearances, amongst them the prestigious talk show‚ WDR Zimmer Frei and ARTE One Shot Not – Tok Tok Tok shot from newcomer to household name in record time.
